Item Condition
Used. Power, display and panel operations confirmed. No probe available, so ultrasonic measurement was not tested. Residual stickiness and soiling on the housing after cleaning.
Used unit with no major dents or damage to the housing. The body was cleaned, but stickiness and soiling could not be completely removed and remain over the whole housing (typical surface tackiness of aged rubber grip material on a unit of this age). There are fine surface scratches on the display window, wear and fraying on the hand strap, and dirt and rubbing on the metal fittings and screws; the rubber gasket of the I/O door and the sponge gasket of the battery cover are in place. The carrying case shows scuffs and dirt on the outside, and the label on the side is torn and peeling.
Operation Check
Power on confirmed: the unit starts on battery alone, and connecting the AC adapter changes the display to charging status. The screen displays normally and draws the color waveform on both the startup and measurement screens. Basic operation confirmed: gain adjustment, pulser voltage change reflected on screen, PRF switched from Auto to Manual by F1 and then variable, four rectification modes switchable, digital filter switchable with a visible change in the trace, gate 1 and gate 2 start position movement, peak memory ON/OFF (P indicator at the upper right), unit switching between in / mm / us, and navigation through the UTIL tabs (General / EditPara / Status / Owner Info / Regulations). Firmware Ver 1.2.0.10. Battery information reported on screen: 6698 mAh against a design capacity of 7200 mAh (approx. 93 percent), Max Error 1 percent. The keypad is marked in Japanese. NOT TESTED: no transducer (probe), probe cable, calibration block, miniSD card, AA battery tray or EP-MCA charger is included and none was available in-house, so echo acquisition, sensitivity, AUTO CAL (velocity / zero offset), gate alarm sounding, peak memory envelope drawing, data logger save and recall, and miniSD / USB read and write could not be verified at all. LOS is displayed at all times because no probe is connected. Previous owner's information: the unit was listed as power-on confirmed only, with no measurement or flaw detection results reported. The Olympus (Panametrics-NDT) EPOCH XT is a portable ultrasonic flaw detector for non-destructive testing, used for weld inspection, crack and flaw detection, corrosion survey and thickness measurement on metals and other materials. It combines a square wave pulser and a wide-band receiver with a color LCD that draws the A-scan waveform, selectable rectification modes, digital receiver filters, two independent measurement gates with alarms, peak memory and an on-board data logger, and it runs from a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack or the AC adapter. Rear-panel labels on the unit describe sound path calibration, angle beam calibration and data logger operation, and the I/O compartment provides DC 24V input, USB host (A), USB client (B) and VGA / D-sub 15 connections. A transducer and cable suited to the material and inspection task are required for actual flaw detection work and are not included with this unit.
