A bibliographical catalogue of books exhibited at the John Carter Brown Library in 1949, augmented with related material from the collections of the American Antiquarian Society. The approximately 300 entries document everyday life in colonial and early national America through books, pamphlets, broadsides, prints, and other contemporary publications.

The catalogue was designed not as an exhaustive bibliography, but as a representative survey of printed sources illustrating agriculture, domestic life, trades, medicine, religion, architecture, transportation, and other aspects of American life from 1602 to 1800. It remains useful as a reference source and is still cited in later scholarship and rare-book cataloguing.
