Kazimir Malevich ( 1878-1935)

was a Russian painter and art theorist, pioneer of geometric abstract art and originator of the Avant Garde Suprematist movement.

Malevich would use a style known as Neo-Suprematism for this painting and it was a movement which he essentially created as he moved on from his earlier work. 

The painting is an excellent example of Russian Cubo-Futurism, blending the fragmented geometric forms of French Cubism with the energy and movement of Italian Futurism

Malevich deliberately juxtaposed two entirely unrelated subjects—a realistic domestic cow and a cubist-styled violin. By placing a small cow directly on top of the instrument, he actively rebelled against traditional academic logic and bourgeois artistic standards.
