Francis Yeats-Brown's celebrated account of his experiences as a British cavalry officer in India, combining military memoir and adventure with observations on Indian life, religion, philosophy, and yoga. The Lives of a Bengal Lancer won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and became Yeats-Brown's best-known work. It later provided the inspiration for the 1935 Paramount film starring Gary Cooper.
