The History of Hopkins Spoons
Founded in 1949 by R.L. Hopkins, an avid
saltwater fisherman, the brand revolutionized metal jigs made in Rhode Isalnd, USA.
- The Material: Unlike
standard stamped or cast metal spoons, original Hopkins lures are forged
from solid stainless steel blocks.
- The Texture: They are
famous for their distinctive hammered finish, which R.L.
Hopkins originally created by hand using a hammer on stainless steel
knife handles. This design mimics the glittering scales of a panicked
baitfish.
- The Legacy: Their
heavy, compact build makes them legendary for incredible casting distance
and vertical jigging in both freshwater and saltwater.
Key Models on the Board
The display includes a mixture of standard and dressed
variations:
- Hopkins No=EQL: The long, slender profile spoon visible at the top left and
right.
- Hopkins Shorty: The wider, teardrop-shaped profile models.
- Dressed Tails: Several
models feature white, yellow, or olive-drab bucktail hair
trailers attached to the hooks to add extra swimming action.
