Red Wing Potteries in Red Wing Minnesota (1880s-1967) began making numerous dinnerware patterns in the 1930s and continued producing popular dinnerware until they closed.  By the 1940s, they were offering many different hand-painted designs on dinnerware.  Designed by Charles Murphy, "Brittany" dinnerware was introduced about 1941 and made into the early 1950s.      

This cream soup bowl with a lid in their Brittany line was finished with a hand-decorated floral pattern on a white background.  It has open handles on 2 sides and a curved lid with a small rosebud-shaped knob.  

The bowl is about 5 inches in diameter, 6-1/2 inches wide across to the outside of the handles, and 4-1/2 inches tall to the top of the rosebud on the lid.    

For a dinnerware piece over 60 years old, it is in good vintage condition - no chips or hairlines - and ready to use, add to a collection, or display all on its own.  Even though originally intended as part of a dinnerware set, it would make a great trinket dish.
