Octavo. [8], 149, [2] pp. First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by Richter on the front free endpaper. In the publisher's cloth with dust jacket. Binding is very bright and the contents are clean except that a number of pages have strange patterns of discoloration--perhaps imperfect paper that has browned, else Near Fine; dust jacket with just touches of edge-rubbing; very crisp; price intact on the front flap.

This copy with with an inscription by Richter to Nathan Hamburger of Banning, California. A very nice copy of Richter's first novel. In 1947 it was adapted into a film directed by Elia Kazan and starring Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Agner 37.11.
