During the 1920s, the Fulper Pottery Co of New Jersey produced a number of these liquor jugs with musical boxes on the bottom. These boxes played an assortment of tunes such as “How dry I am“ and possibly “Puttin on the Ritz“.  This particular example has a working music box that actually sounds very good considering the age. I do not recognize the tune that it plays, however.  The outside has the classic Fulper sea green glaze with gold colored highlights on the handle and neck. The stopper is original with I believe the original cork.  I will mention, I have not removed the music box recently but I do not believe this jug is signed with the classic Fulper ink mark. In the past, I have had these jugs and many of them are not signed, however, the glazes and shapes usually indicate the origin of each pieces.  The piece stands a hair over 9” tall to top of stopper and 4 1/4” across the base. I can find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs to either the stopper or the bottle itself. As mentioned earlier, the music box does work, possibly could use a slight oiling in the mechanism. I did picture several small bubble pops in the glaze which occurred during manufacturing especially visible on the neck region, standard fare found with Fulper glazes.
