☑️ HOW TO BOOT ELEMENTARY OS FROM USB OR DVD

✅ WINDOWS PCs AND COMPATIBLE COMPUTERS

  1. Back up all important files before beginning.

  2. Turn off the computer.

  3. Insert the elementary OS USB flash drive or DVD.

  4. Turn on the computer.

  5. Immediately press the key that opens the Boot Menu. Common keys include Esc, F8, F9, F10, F11, or F12, depending on the computer manufacturer.

  6. Select the appropriate UEFI USB, USB Storage Device, EFI USB, or DVD Drive option.

  7. Press Enter and wait for the elementary OS startup screen to appear.

  8. Choose the appropriate demonstration or installation option shown on the screen.

  9. Follow the on-screen instructions. Enjoy!

Note: Secure Boot may need to be disabled or adjusted before some computers can start from external Linux media.

✅ INTEL-BASED APPLE MAC COMPUTERS

  1. Back up all important files before beginning.

  2. Shut down the Mac.

  3. Insert the elementary OS USB flash drive.

  4. Turn on the Mac while immediately holding the Option/Alt key.

  5. Continue holding the key until Startup Manager appears.

  6. Select EFI Boot or the external boot device.

  7. Wait for the elementary OS startup screen to appear.

  8. Choose the appropriate demonstration or installation option and follow the on-screen instructions.

Important: The included 64-bit AMD64 release is intended for compatible Intel-based computers. It is not the ARM64 release required for native use on Apple-silicon Macs with M-series processors.

Some Intel Macs equipped with Apple’s T2 Security Chip may require changes in Startup Security Utility before external booting is permitted. Hardware-specific features—including Wi-Fi, audio, graphics, keyboard, trackpad, and cameras—may require additional configuration or may not be fully supported.

⚠️ CHROMEBOOK NOTICE

Standard Linux USB or DVD media does not boot on every Chromebook. Compatibility depends on the Chromebook model, processor architecture, firmware, and whether external USB booting is supported and enabled. Please verify compatibility before ordering.
