With a dedication page addressed to Gulielmo Maxwell de Monreith (William Maxwell of Monreith), designated as a baronet (Equiti Baronetto) praising the recipient's noble character, virtue, and active life, commemorating his return to and care for his ancestral lands (agros paternos revisit, et colit).
PROVENANCE This book is from the Library at Monreith House and has the bookplate of Aymer Maxwell pasted to the inside front board. Also included loosely laid in is the shelf ticket for the book.
Sir Aymer Maxwell of Monreith (1911–1987) was a Scottish baronet and British Army officer. He was the 8th Baronet Maxwell of Monreith, a title created in 1681 for the Maxwell family of Monreith House in Wigtownshire, Scotland.
He was the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Aymer Edward Maxwell and Lady Mary Percy, daughter of the 7th Duke of Northumberland. Educated at Eton and Magdalene College, Cambridge, he graduated with a BA in 1933 and succeeded to the baronetcy in 1937. He later served in the British Army and attained the rank of major-general during or after the Second World War. He was also a Justice of the Peace for Wigtownshire.
In 19th-century and earlier medical dissertations from Edinburgh, students defended their thesis in Latin to attain their medical doctorate (M.D.), discussing prevailing theories on the causes, symptoms, and management of fluid retention conditions like dropsy.
CONDITION A very good copy. The leather binding is good. Marble endpapers very good. All contents present and pages very clean throughout. Overall a very good copy.
