Made in Japan during the 1970s, the Evans EE-3 Super Echo is a rare analogue tape-delay unit designed for vocals, guitars, keyboards and other instruments.
It uses a continuously moving tape loop with a fixed playback head and an adjustable recording head. Moving the recording head closer to or farther from the playback head changes the delay time, allowing anything from short slapback effects through to longer, atmospheric echoes.
Controls include Echo Repeat, Echo Volume and Echo Tone, along with a separate input-level control for the microphone channels. Five inputs accommodate two microphones, two instruments and a connection from a PA or mixer. It also provides two output paths, including an echo-only signal suitable for use with a mixer effects loop.
A wonderfully unusual Japanese tape echo with hands-on delay-time adjustment and plenty of genuine old-school tape character.
