Antique Indian Engraved Brass Lota Screw Top Water Pot Vessel Hand Chased 20cm
Description
Antique Indian engraved brass lota — a traditional water or storage vessel with a screw-top lid.
Globular body on a splayed foot with a narrow waisted neck. Decorated all over with hand-chased and engraved foliate scrollwork, palmettes and stylised leaves in banded registers, with a lotus rosette to the centre of the lid. The engraving is done by hand, not cast, and shows the density of work associated with the Moradabad brass tradition of northern India.
The lid screws down onto the neck and carries two knob fittings, one present.
