Meet Mr Pingu, a gloriously sunny little penguin with plenty of retro personality. Moulded in hard plastic, his upright silhouette is picked out in vivid yellow and warm golden-brown tones, with a long-pointed beak, swept-back flipper, rounded body and neatly modelled feet, giving him an unmistakable penguin profile.
Dating to around the 1970s–80s, this brooch has a glossy surface and softly moulded contours that give the piece an almost sculptural quality. At the same time, the deliberately unrealistic colouring makes the design more cheerful and distinctive.
The reverse is fitted with a metal brooch pin mounted to the plastic body. Mr Pingu measures 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm (1.38 x 0.98 in) and is in good condition.
Penguins have an enduring appeal as symbols of companionship, loyalty and resilience, but this fellow takes himself rather less seriously. With his sunshine colouring and wonderfully streamlined retro shape, Mr Pingu is a small brooch with a surprisingly large amount of character.
