Inuit influence seal carving. Dwayne Goldsmith, Tsawout First Nation, Canada. c1950
A very good natural seal carving making excellent use of the triangular piece of soapstone.
Not sure of date as piece is signed but not dated, but from the patination I would say the 1950’s (I believe the name covers several generations). I would say that there is Inuit influence in this piece.
The Tsawout First Nation is one of five bands that constitute the Saanich Nation of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. In the 1850s they were signatories to the Douglas Treaties.
