A stunning and scarce trio. Extravagant polychrome hand painting in the chinoiserie style. A very lavish pattern from Newhall. Ex Maisels collection No.1575
For around 50 years between 1781 and 1835, the New Hall China Works (Shelton, Staffordshire) made porcelain tea-wares, firstly of hard paste porcelain. They used the patented method bought from Richard Champion (used by Champion and William Cookworthy in Bristol and also by the latter in Plymouth). Around about 1812-14 they started making bone china. In November 1804, the firm was trading as Messrs Hollins, Warburton, Daniel, Bagnall and Clowes.
