A stunning signed hand carved Manx Celtic pendant mounted in hallmarked silver dating to 1976.
Maureen Costain Richards (1933-2004) was the first recipient of the Reih Bleeaney Award, which was presented to her by (Manx) Culture Vannin in 1986. The award was made to Maureen for her work in drawing and illustrating ancient Manx crosses.
Maureen had a keen interest in archaeology, receiving a scholarship to study at Douglas School of Art. She was the author of a book of colour illustrations of Manx crosses entitled "The Manx Crosses Illustrated" published in 1988
She hand-carved stone and pewter miniature replicas of the Manx crosses that are found all round the Isle of Man. This is an exceptional example of her work mounted in hallmarked silver (Birmingham 1976 letter B).
