Liverpool or Leeds Creamware under-glaze stipple-printed Porter Mug. c1815

A lovely creamware porter mug with two very fine under-glaze stipple and line engraved transfer-printed panels. One depicting a shepherd wooing a milkmaid. The reverse depicting the maid with resulting family! Similar engraved designs are found on Staffordshire plates of this period and were probably copied from book illustrations of the time. The quality of the engraving indicates that a factory of quality produced this.

Sprig ended handle terminals (similar to Herculaneum). The mug tapers up slightly from the base rim. Please note: The porcelain body is white.

Dimensions: 11.7cm high x 12.9cm diameter at rim x 18cm across handle.
Weight: 450gms

Condition: Excellent. No chips cracks or restoration. One tiny fleabite unglazed area on rim (see photographs) Good ring when tapped. Museum quality.
