Qing dynasty Chinese scholar’s celadon jade brush washer dish and stand.

A hard celadon Jade scholar’s table brush washer. In the form of a scholar’s courtyard ‘pond’. It is formal with a carved leaf and blossom border. The shallow dish has a retaining edge which undercut, giving a pleasing sense of depth. The dish is on a intricate and finely carved hardwood stand of naturalistic vines and has a large five petal flower in the centre. The dish sits in this recess with its edge ‘floating’ above the carving. The stand and edges of the brush washer are smooth with handling and oil. The jade has a very pleasing and subtle range of colours. Ex Scottish estate sale. Probably acquired during the period of British colonial expansion (circa 1790-1890) - Qing dynasty (1644–1911)
