Description

Antique Schweppes conical bottle in aqua glass — the distinctive cone shape with a fluted neck and a blob lip.

Embossed around the body: THIS BOTTLE IS AND ALWAYS REMAINS THE PROPERTY OF SCHWEPPES LTD, with the royal coat of arms, the lion and unicorn and the Dieu et Mon Droit motto. The reverse is embossed REGISTERED DESIGN, Rd No 3960.

This is the Australian household cordial form. Auction records for the same bottle — matching wording, fluted neck, coat of arms and Rd number — show examples made by Australian Glass Manufacturers and dated to the 1920s. Note that the Rd number is an Australian design registration, so the British registered-design dating tables do not apply to this bottle.

Nice period character in the glass, with scattered bubbles through the body and a good pushed-up base including a large trapped bubble.

Sold as a display and collector's piece.
