The battery is still good, 665 cycles and shows as normal and the screen is good. Its operating system is 10.15 Catalina, the last officially supported version. Using open core legacy patchers it could be upgraded higher, potentially even to Sonoma.

The one aspect of the computer which isn't working 100% is the touch pad. It has lost some of its click zones and only works consistently to click at the bottom of the touch pad. It works perfectly to move the cursor, however. I have it set up so that finger taps work as clicks, so the only time I noticed it was when I had to drag and drop. Drag and drop still works, though, you just have to click at the bottom of the touch pad.

The mid 2012 MacBook Pro is famous for being the last MacBook to be user upgradable. It can be upgraded to its maximum RAM of 16gb. It has been upgraded to an SSD – 120gb – making it considerably faster than its original hard drive, but it could easily be upgraded to up to 8TB if desired.
