Vintage December 1970 Original Great Northern Railway No. 3350 Steam Locomotive Drawing

Offered here is an impressive original hand-rendered graphite/pencil locomotive drawing dated “DEC. 1970”, depicting what research indicates is Great Northern Railway No. 3350, a historic Class O-6 2-8-2 Mikado steam locomotive.

This is not simply a generic steam-engine illustration. The artist carefully included the locomotive number 3350, railroad herald on the tender, wheel arrangement, running gear, boiler fittings, pilot and numerous mechanical details associated with the actual locomotive.

Historical railroad records identify Great Northern No. 3350 as part of the railroad’s O-6 class of 2-8-2 steam locomotives. No. 3350 was rebuilt during the 1920s and remained part of Great Northern’s steam-era history.

The artwork itself is clearly inscribed:

“DEC. 1970”

at the lower right.

The artist is currently unidentified, and no unsupported attribution is being made. The quality and amount of mechanical detail suggest the work was created by someone with a serious interest in steam locomotives and railroad equipment.

The drawing has been professionally matted and framed. A vintage Michaels professional finishing/framing label remains attached to the reverse. The Michaels label pertains to the framing and should not be interpreted as the creation date of the artwork.
