A beautiful antique British sterling silver brooch featuring one of the most romantic motifs found in Victorian jewellery – the swallow in flight.

This wonderfully detailed piece centres on a finely worked flying swallow surrounded by an arrangement of flowers and foliage. The design is enhanced by contrasting rose and yellow-toned applied details, creating a rich multi-coloured effect against the silver background.

Particularly attractive are the dimensional construction and openwork elements. Small silver beads decorate the circular central frame, while scrolling applied sections at either end give the brooch an elaborate architectural appearance.

In Victorian and Edwardian sentimental jewellery, the swallow was traditionally associated with safe return, loyalty, devotion and coming home, making swallow jewellery especially desirable among collectors today.

The brooch carries the British lion passant hallmark confirming sterling silver. Additional marks are present but are not sufficiently clear to attribute confidently, so no speculative maker or exact date is stated.
