A beautifully detailed antique silver Albertina watch chain, retaining the elaborate decorative elements that make these Victorian chains so distinctive and increasingly collectable.

This elegant piece features a traditional Albertina-style arrangement with a substantial chain, twisted T-bar, period-style dog clip, an ornate fixed central decorative element and a particularly attractive multi-strand tassel.

The fixed centrepiece is richly decorated with raised scrolling ornament, while the tassel is formed from multiple fine woven chains terminating in small silver beads. Together they give the piece wonderful movement and texture without making it excessively heavy.

Originally Albertina chains were the feminine counterpart to the gentleman's Albert watch chain, worn with a lady's pocket watch and often decorated far more elaborately. Today surviving examples are increasingly collected both as pieces of Victorian jewellery and for contemporary wear.

A particularly decorative example with all the visual ingredients collectors look for in an Albertina: T-bar, clip, ornamental centrepiece and an elaborate tassel. Equally attractive displayed with an antique watch or fob, or incorporated into a modern jewellery arrangement.

A genuine piece of wearable history with far more character than modern reproductions can convincingly imitate.
