The Real Car
The Lotus 72 was one of the most successful and influential Formula 1 designs of the 1970s, introduced in 1970 with its distinctive wedge shape, inboard brakes, and side-mounted radiators. Run under the John Player Special sponsorship, the car carried Lotus to consecutive Constructors' Championships and delivered Drivers' titles for Jochen Rindt in 1970 and Emerson Fittipaldi in 1972. By the mid-1970s the 72 remained a front-running car, with Ronnie Peterson carrying race number 5 for the works team during the 1974 season.
