Yasashii Tamagotchi
 Vintage Virtual Pet
One of the Rarest Vintage Tamagotchi · Tested & Working
Why This One Matters

The Yasashii Tamagotchi (やさしいたまごっち — literally "Gentle Tamagotchi") arrived in October 1998, right as the original Tamagotchi boom was burning out. Bandai shipped it in small numbers, it sold poorly, and it disappeared almost immediately. Today that makes it one of the hardest vintage Tamagotchi units in the world to find — collectors routinely rank its scarcity alongside the legendary Devilgotchi, and Japanese collectors joke that a device named "gentle" is anything but gentle to track down.

It is also unlike any other vintage Tamagotchi to hold. Instead of squeezing every action into three tiny buttons and an on-screen menu, Bandai gave it six large, clearly labeled care buttons across the front — press the one you want and the care happens directly. The shell is noticeably bigger than the original egg, it runs on ordinary AA batteries instead of watch cells, and it has a built-in kickstand so it can sit on a desk. It was Bandai's attempt at a Tamagotchi anyone from a small child to a grandparent could enjoy.

What Makes It Different
Six Big Care Buttons — No Menu Hunting
Meal, snack, doctor, toilet, light and more each get their own labeled button on the face of the shell. It is the most direct, most tactile way any vintage Tamagotchi was ever played.
Runs on AA Batteries
No fiddly LR44 watch cells and no screwdriver required — a genuine practical advantage over every 1996–97 vintage model.
Characters Printed Right on the Shell
Kodomotchi, Jijitchi, Babatchi and friends are illustrated across the body in the original 90s artwork — a display piece even when it is switched off.
The One That Got Away
Launched at the very end of the boom and quickly discontinued. Surviving units — especially working ones — rarely come up for sale outside Japan.

Condition Notes

Tested and working. Batteries were installed and operation was confirmed.

Cosmetic condition — a 1998 vintage item, please read carefully:

  • Age-related yellowing of the shell — the white plastic has aged to a cream tone, as is normal for a device of this age
  • Some scratches and dirt / grime from use and storage
  • Printed shell artwork remains clearly visible

Overall cosmetic grade: Good for its age — honestly used, over 25 years old, and functioning.

Japan-domestic model — all on-screen text and button labels are in Japanese. All photos show the actual item you will receive and form part of this description, so please review them carefully before purchasing.
