Ray Jones is an established Asheville woodworker who has been making boxes full-time since 1982. His boxes are notable for being constructed entirely from wood, including the hinges/fasteners, and he uses the natural color of the wood rather than stains or dyes. He also has a legitimate secondary-market following: a Ray Jones pen box sold at auction for $350, and his larger specialty pieces can bring substantially more. A large 1997 “Half Moon” jewelry box even sold through Rago in April 2026 for $3,840—but that was a much larger, more elaborate specialty work, so I would not use that as the direct value for yours.

Based on the size/complexity I can see, the 2005 signature, excellent figured wood, black-lined interior, and especially the original Ray Jones paperwork, I would put your practical eBay value around:

I would list it at $249.99 OBO and be perfectly happy with an offer around $190–225. I would not auction it cheaply. There are currently signed/preowned Ray Jones boxes being offered around the $185–$215 range, while his current handmade boxes start around $105 and climb quickly depending on size and wood.

One thing I would not do yet is name the wood species. It is beautifully figured and may include burl, but I can't verify the exact species from the photos alone.
