TOPCON HiPer V GNSS Receiver GPS GLONASS RTK Permanent OAF - FOR PARTS No Fix

Item Condition

FOR PARTS OR REPAIR. The receiver powers on and the front-panel LEDs indicate GPS/GLONASS signal acquisition, but it does NOT achieve a position fix. Tested outdoors under open sky on two separate occasions (approx. 20 minutes, and again for over 15 minutes); the Position Status LED stayed red and no position solution was ever obtained. All receiver options (OAF) were read via TRU and are Permanent, including RTK at 10 Hz. No factory reset, NVRAM clear, firmware update, or OAF change was performed at any time. Sold as-is for parts or repair.

This receiver does NOT achieve a position fix. It powers on normally and the front-panel LEDs indicate that GPS and GLONASS signals are being acquired, but no position solution was ever obtained during our testing. It is offered as a non-working unit for parts or repair.

Cosmetically the unit is in good condition: no cracks or dents in the housing, no peeling of the rubber bumpers, a clean 5/8 inch mounting thread, and readable labels. The POWER (red ring) and SERIAL (black ring) connectors show no bent pins or corrosion and both retain their caps. The battery compartment is clean, with no water marks, corrosion, or sand, and the gasket is in good condition.

Please purchase this item with the understanding that it is a used, non-working unit sold as-is.

Operation Check

WHAT DOES NOT WORK

• Position fix: NOT achieved. Tested outdoors under open sky twice (approx. 20 minutes, and again for over 15 minutes). The Position Status LED remained red throughout and no position solution was obtained at any point.
• Internal clock: significantly offset. A log file recorded during our inspection in August 2026 carried a file date of 2027-03-07. Degradation of the internal backup battery is suspected, but we have not confirmed this.
• Bluetooth pairing with a Windows PC was not successful.

WHAT WAS CONFIRMED TO WORK

• Power on / off, startup voice guidance (the voice guidance on this unit speaks Japanese), and audio notifications.
• Front-panel LEDs light without dead segments in the areas we checked (power, battery, satellite, SD and serial rows). We did not verify all 22 indicators individually.
• Satellite signal acquisition, as indicated by the LEDs (green for GPS, amber for GLONASS). This is based on LED indication only; satellite count and signal-to-noise ratio were not measured.
• Static data logging to SD card: card recognized (7.40 GB, 0 bad blocks), log file created, REC LED blinking, and recording stopped normally. The log file was then downloaded to a PC successfully.
• Serial connection to Topcon Receiver Utility (TRU): established without issue.
• Bluetooth pairing with a smartphone: successful (PIN 0000). Data communication over Bluetooth was not verified.
• BDC70 batteries: both accepted charge in both bays of the CDC68 charger.

All of the above are Permanent, not leased, so there are no expiring licenses. Region Lock is set to the full globe (authorized regions 90/0 to -90/360), with excluded regions only over South America and the Atlantic.

Not purchased or disabled on this unit: Galileo, GIOVE, Co-op Tracking, Adaptive PLL, Weak Signal Tracking, HD2 Mode, DION Mode, Inertial Integration, Tilt and Inertial Assistance, Event Markers, Frequency Input, Frequency Lock and Output.

HARDWARE AND FIRMWARE (read via TRU)

• GNSS firmware: 4.7 (Feb 23, 2018). Aux board firmware: 2.3 (Mar 08, 2018).
• GNSS board: BX10, revision BX10_4, PID 210. CPU 235 MHz, RAM 16.00 MB.
• P/N 1001137-14. Made in U.S.A.
• Battery A read 7.71 V (76%) at the time of inspection.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR REPAIRERS

No factory reset, NVRAM clear, firmware update, OAF upload, radio frequency change, or file deletion was performed on this unit at any point during our inspection. Bluetooth settings were viewed but not changed. The receiver is in the same configuration as we received it.

NOT TESTED

• RTK base / rover operation. We had only a single unit, and no internal radio modem was detected in TRU (Serial A-D all read None), nor did we find a radio antenna connector on the housing, so this unit appears not to be equipped with an internal radio. We were not able to confirm this definitively.
• External DC power input (6.7-18 V DC). The POWER port was visually inspected only; no power was applied through it.
• Measurement accuracy and RTK performance of any kind.
• Calibration. No calibration sticker or certificate was found, and we do not perform calibration.

Product Info

The TOPCON HiPer V is a compact, cable-free integrated GNSS receiver for land surveying and construction layout. It combines a multi-constellation GNSS antenna, receiver board, Bluetooth communication, and dual hot-swappable BDC70 batteries in a single rugged housing, and can be configured as an RTK base or rover. LED indicators on the front panel show power, battery, satellite tracking, position status, SD recording, and serial status. The unit supports static data logging to SD card as well as real-time kinematic operation. It mounts on a standard 5/8 inch thread. Some HiPer V units are supplied with an internal UHF radio modem; this particular unit does not appear to have one fitted.
