Product Description
This antique covered canister features an intricately hand-engraved surface executed in the traditional Qajar style. The cylindrical body and matching domed lid with a pointed finial are decorated with dense horizontal bands depicting courtly figures, walking camels, lions, and repeating floral scrollwork. The central figural register prominently displays ancient pre-Islamic Zoroastrian motifs and mythological stories from the Shahnameh (Book of Kings), including King Tahmuras subduing the demon Ahriman. The interior contains a separate, removable secondary metal liner insert. Originating in the Middle East during the late 19th to early 20th century, these heavy brass vessels were highly prized utilitarian containers, where the internal sleeve was used for storing aromatic culinary spices, preserving tobacco moisture, or housing dry medicinal herbs.

Condition Report
The heavy brass outer vessel and the internal metal liner insert are structurally sound. The domed lid fits cleanly over the main canister rim. All exterior brass surfaces exhibit a dark, uncleaned antique tarnish with deeper oxidation highlighting the intricate hand-engraved details. The flat underside base is completely decorated with hand-punched fish-scale work surrounding a central six-pointed rosette medallion. Minor handling wear and faint surface scuffs are present along the base edge and finial.
