Product Description
This antique textile cap is decorated with dense Ottoman-style metallic thread embroidery, traditionally known as kaval or zardosi work. The dome-shaped linen or cotton ground features high-relief embroidery utilizing heavy gilt or metallic bullion threads, creating vertical panels filled with stylized botanical scrolls, teardrop paisley motifs, and repeating floral blossoms above a coordinating geometric border band along the lower rim. Headwear of this variety, often referred to as an araqchin or takke, was worn throughout regions of the Ottoman Empire, Central Asia, and Persia, serving as a decorative everyday skullcap or as a structured base layer worn underneath a formal turban.

Condition Report
The textile base and structural panel stitching are complete. The exterior embroidery demonstrates extensive metallic thread oxidation, dulling, and dark tarnish consistent with age, alongside localized fraying and loose thread ends along the raised scrollwork borders and lower rim band. The interior lining fabric shows extensive quilting stitches, localized fraying near the raw panel seams, a single loose white thread loop near the crown center, and areas of pinkish-orange surface discoloration. The wooden display stand shown in previous photographs is not included.
