Antique English Shagreen Cased Brass Mathematical Drawing Instrument Set c.1840–1860
An exceptional antique mid-19th century English mathematical drawing instrument set, housed in its original black shagreen (shark/ray skin) covered fitted case. Dating to approximately 1840, this quality set was intended for use by engineers, architects, surveyors, draftsmen, and military officers.
The original fitted interior retains an impressive assortment of finely crafted gilt brass instruments, including compasses, dividers, ruling pen attachments, interchangeable points, extension bar, ebony split rule, and a solid brass semicircular protractor. The instruments exhibit the precision craftsmanship associated with fine Victorian English makers.
