Volumes 1-9 complete

(the title page mentions "in ten volumes" but only 9 volumes were ever published.

LIMITED EDITION of 100 copies printed for private circulation only. This large paper version was limited to 100 copies, whereas there was a small paper version with a 150 copy limitation.

The covers are very rubbed and worn. They are bound in the original grey boards with vellum spines but the covers are very delicate. Some of the front boards have detached or else are very loose (but all boards are present). The spines are cracked an worn and volume 9 has split into two pieces.

There are bookplates inside the covers of each volume as follows:

"Ex Libris Adolphus William Ward, Master of Peterhouse"

"The home of this book is Hampton Lodge, Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, Cynthia & John Barnes"

There is some browning at the front and rear of most volumes affecting the endpapers. However, the high quality paper which has been used for this edition means that the pages are in very good condition throughout. Most pages are unopened (joined together at the top of the page). The page edges are uncut.

These volumes could potentially be rebound into a nice set.
