This copy comes together with 4 letters from the publisher, F.Lewis, addressed to purchaser P.A.Jobson. Jobson was an artist and friend of Brangwyn. In one letter, dated 7th October 1948, Lewis states that to Jobson "You shall have copy number ONE". This is further confirmed with a hand written note on the receipt (dated 28th April 1949) that "this set contains the first impressions of the etchings and is actually No. 1".

The letters accompanying the volume offer a unique confirmation that this is the very first copy printed. The plates were defaced after the issuing of this work, so as to not give the possibility of any further copies being produced.
