Bristan IRBS2-CP Infrared Automatic Basin Spout

The Bristan IRBS2-CP is a commercial infrared basin spout designed for hygienic, hands-free operation in busy washrooms. An infrared sensor detects when the user places their hands near the tap and automatically starts the water flow. When the hands are removed, the water stops without the user needing to touch the tap.

This helps reduce contact with the tap surface, supports good hand hygiene and helps limit unnecessary water use. The automatic shut-off also stops the water after approximately 55 seconds if the sensor remains activated.

The tap has a durable polished chrome finish which is scratch resistant and salt spray tested. Its modern deck-mounted design is suitable for commercial washrooms, offices, schools, retail premises, hospitality environments and other public facilities.

Bristan classifies this model for light and heavy commercial use. It is not listed by Bristan as suitable for domestic or healthcare applications.

Please Read Before Buying

This is an infrared automatic basin spout. It is not a standard manual basin mixer tap.

The tap has no handle or manual temperature control. It accepts one pre-mixed water supply, so an approved thermostatic blending valve must be installed on the hot and cold supplies before the water reaches the tap.

The thermostatic blending valve is not built into the tap and is not included.

This model requires a minimum operating pressure of 1 bar and is suitable for high-pressure plumbing systems between 1 and 5 bar.

Isolation valves are not included.

The tap can be operated using mains electricity or batteries. Four AA alkaline batteries are required for battery operation and are not supplied.

When connected to the mains, the supplied power control box must be permanently connected through a suitable switched fused spur. Electrical installation should be completed by a suitably qualified person.

Highly reflective surfaces can interfere with the infrared sensor. Bristan recommends positioning the tap at least 360mm away from reflective surfaces to prevent unwanted activation.

How The Infrared Sensor Works

Place your hands within the sensor area and the tap will automatically release water.

Remove your hands and the water flow will stop.

The sensor has a working range of up to approximately 15cm.

The water will automatically stop after approximately 55 seconds to help prevent unnecessary water waste. Remove your hands, wait around four seconds and place them back within the sensor range if more water is required.

A low-battery warning light indicates when the batteries need replacing. The tap can also automatically switch to battery operation if the mains power supply fails, provided suitable batteries have been installed.

Important Temperature Information

The IRBS2-CP does not mix hot and cold water inside the tap.

It requires a safe, pre-blended water supply from a separate approved thermostatic blending valve. The user cannot adjust the temperature at the tap because there is no handle or temperature control.

This point is particularly important when replacing a standard two-feed basin mixer.

Power Options

The tap can be powered in either of the following ways:

  • 220–240V Mains Power
  • Four AA Alkaline Batteries

Batteries are not supplied.

When batteries are fitted alongside a mains connection, they act as a backup during a power failure.

The mains installation requires a 3-amp fused electrical connection and should be completed by a suitably qualified person.
