Original 1870s graphite copyist study of the famous Antinous bust, drawn from a sculpture in the Louvre or a related collection.  Why these drawings exist: In the 19th century the Louvre functioned as a major free art academy. Copyists and art students filled the sculpture halls daily, meticulously reproducing antique statues and plaster casts to master anatomy, proportion, and shading — a cornerstone of academic artistic training.  This piece beautifully captures the elegant profile, curly hair, and idealized features of the Antinous. Graphite on paper, approx. 18" x 24". Good condition with light natural age toning.
