Vintage English briar tobacco pipe from Frederick Tranter's Pipe Shop in Bath. This compact 'Roley' or vest-pocket style pipe features a smooth briar bowl with attractive birdseye grain and a short bent vulcanite stem. The bowl is stamped 'FREDK. TRANTER PIPE SHOP BATH'. Frederick Tranter was a well-known tobacconist with shops in Bath, Oxford, and Cambridge, dating back to around 1870. Many of their pipes were made by Cadogan, the group behind Comoy's. This pipe shows signs of previous use with a layer of cake in the chamber and a gentle tobacco aroma, as expected for a vintage smoker. The stem has some light wear and minor chipping at the very tip, consistent with age and use, but remains fully functional. No major cracks or damage. Bowl measures approximately 5 cm across. A lovely piece of English pipe-making history, perfect for collectors or everyday use.
