VALERIAN I (253-260). Antoninianus. Viminacium.

Obv: IMP VALERIANVS P F AVG.

Radiate and cuirassed bust of Valerian right.

Rev: VICT PART.

Victory standing left, holding shield and palm; to left, captive seated left, in attitude of mourning.

A quite optimistic issue, minted in AD 257/58, before the campaign against the sasanians in which Valerian was defeated and captured by king Shapur I in AD 260 at Edessa.
