Original WWII Japanese Army Type 98 gunto sword koshirae with a wooden tsunagi blade.
This listing is for the military sword mountings and wooden tsunagi only. No steel sword blade is included.
The iron scabbard retains its olive-green paint and has a single suspension ring. There is extensive surface rust, corrosion and paint loss throughout the scabbard.
The handle has standard Japanese military fittings, a cast military tsuba, brown tsuka-ito, ray-skin panels, cherry blossom menuki and a sarute. The handle wrapping shows darkening from use and some looseness. Portions of the ray skin are missing.
There is one crack in the wooden handle core near the blade opening. Please refer to the close-up photographs.
Three seppa are included. No matching or assembly numbers were found. This example does not have a scabbard-locking or retention mechanism.
The wooden tsunagi blade has some movement when fitted into the handle.
