Vintage Borsalino "Alessandria" men's fur felt hat in charcoal grey. The crown is left open and unshaped — the way many collectors prefer it, ready to crease to your own taste. Wide brim with a bound edge, matching grey grosgrain band with side bow and keeper, and a trolly cord with button.

The liner is marked "Qualità Superiore," "Borsalino Alessandria," "Marca Depositata," "Made in Italy," and "Reg. U.S. Pat. Off." The sweatband is stamped with the Borsalino script, "Fabbrica di Cappelli Alessandria," "Grand Prix Paris 1900," and the shield "Made in Italy by Original House Founded in 1857." Retailer-stamped for Larry Cunningham, Oakland. The size is embossed in the leather (7), beside the owner's embossed initials "A W L."

This hat was passed down to us from a family relative, Anton Zamloch, an American magician — a piece of personal history with a story behind it.

Condition: excellent — no moth holes, cracks, or fading. There is a small darker spot on the upper left of the crown, and very minor foxing around the liner sticker. No hat box included.


PROVENANCE & HISTORICAL NOTE:

This piece comes directly from the family estate of the famous 19th and early-20th-century stage illusionist Anton Zamloch (“Zamloch the Great”) (1848–1932). Billed as one of the premier American magicians of the Gilded Age, Zamloch toured opera houses, mining towns, and theaters across North America, Hawaii, and Mexico before settling in the San Francisco Bay Area. Personal wardrobe items from the Zamloch estate—especially fine custom headwear tailored by premier San Francisco and European haberdashers—are exceptionally rare historic pieces of stage and magic Americana.
