HISTORY MINUTE
There are two distinct vessels named Centaur associated with the Blue Funnel Line
(Ocean Steamship Company) based on Wikipedia and related shipping history: a 1924-built motor ship that operated on the Australia–Singapore route
and a 1964-built passenger/cargo ship
The 1964 Centaur was a popular, albeit expensive, vessel known as the last official liner to leave Australian shores before being sold in 1985.
MS Centaur (1964–2006)
Design & Launch: Launched on June 20, 1963, for the Blue Funnel Line's
Singapore-Fremantle service to carry 190 passengers and cargo, including livestock.
Service History: Officially handed over in January 1964, she operated mainly
between Australia and Singapore.
Final Years: Withdrawn from service in 1982, she was chartered to the
St Helena Shipping Company for a year before being sold to China in 1985
and renamed Hai Long.
