HISTORY MINUTE
MS Meteor (Built 1955)
The "Unique Cruise Ship": Constructed in Aalborg, Denmark.
This 297-foot, ultra-luxurious motor liner is the vessel most people associate
with Bergen Line's vintage marketing.
She famously sailed the Baltic, Northern Europe, and was one of the first
Scandinavian ships to operate in the Alaska-Vancouver cruise trade.

The 1971 Tragedy:
On May 22, 1971, while cruising off the coast of British Columbia, Canada,
a devastating flash fire broke out in the crew's living quarters.
While all passengers and several crew members were safely evacuated,
32 crew members tragically lost their lives.
Final Years:
The ship was declared a total loss, sold to Greek line Epirotiki, rebuilt, and sailed
under the name MS Neptune until 1995 before being scrapped in 2002.
