Rare original German Paul Collignon-Bonn poultry caponizing instrument set, dating to approximately 1925–1926 during the Weimar Republic.

This specialized veterinary/agricultural set was designed for the surgical caponization of young roosters and is accompanied by scarce original illustrated German instructional literature titled:

“Das Kapaunisieren – Die moderne Kastration der Junghähne und anderen Geflügels.”

The metal instruments are marked:

COLLIGNON BONN
D.R.P.

The set includes the original caponizing instruments, restraining cord with metal rings, fitted storage box, and illustrated period instructions showing the procedure and the instruments in use.

The accompanying literature is particularly interesting from a historical perspective. It reflects the strong economic nationalism of Weimar-era Germany, encouraging Germans to produce and eat domestic capons rather than imported French and Belgian poultry.

One prominent slogan reads:

“Essen Sie deutsche Kapaune anstatt französische Poularden.”
“Eat German capons instead of French poulardes.”

Another states:

“Ich will, daß jeder Deutsche zu Ostern einen deutschen Kapaun in der Pfanne habe.”
“I want every German to have a German capon in the pan at Easter.”

The text discusses reducing German dependence on imported French and Belgian poultry and keeping agricultural production and money within Germany. This type of protectionist and nationalist advertising was characteristic of parts of German commercial and agricultural culture during the economically turbulent Weimar period and predates the Nazi government.

The literature also contains a photograph of an Orpington capon, identified as:

● Hatched June 1924

● Caponized August 1924

● Weighed in May 1925 at 11 pounds

These details help date the material firmly to the mid-1920s.

Included:

● Paul Collignon-Bonn marked caponizing instrument

● Second specialized caponizing/retractor instrument

● Original poultry restraining cord with metal rings

● Original fitted storage box

● Original illustrated German instructional/advertising literature
