The Russell Hobbs Retro Classic Noir is a kettle with proper visual presence. Its mid-century inspired styling brings together a black stainless steel body, a square handle, a retro ring lid and, most distinctively, an analogue temperature gauge on the side of the jug that shows the water heating in real time. It is a genuine design piece rather than just another plastic kettle, and it earns its place on a worktop.
Behind the styling sits a well thought out modern kettle. The 1.7 litre capacity makes up to six cups, enough for a full tea run, while the Rapid Boil Zone lets you heat just 1, 2 or 3 cups when you only need one drink. Russell Hobbs state this boils a single cup in around 55 seconds and saves up to 66 percent energy compared with boiling a full litre. The concealed flat plate element makes the interior easy to clean and descale, there is a removable and washable limescale filter in the spout, and the perfect pour spout is shaped to give drip free pouring. A 360 degree rotational base suits left or right handed use, the water level is visible through a gauge, and the illuminated switch turns off automatically when the water boils.
