Two scarce antique chromolithographed pictorial book covers published by Lothrop Publishing Company, Boston, likely dating from the late 19th century. Includes Through the Looking Glass and Dog Tales. The Through the Looking Glass cover features a particularly striking Alice in Wonderland scene with anthropomorphic chess pieces. These are believed to have been produced as promotional, advertising, or display material for the publisher’s children’s books. Exact original purpose is unknown. With their large format and vivid period illustrations, these original covers are also well suited for framing and display.

Each cover measures approximately 8 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches. These are loose covers only, without the original books or text pages. The chromolithographed illustrations remain colorful and attractive, with age toning, scattered spotting and soiling, light creases, edge and corner wear, and other signs of age and handling. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition of each piece. Overall condition can be considered very good.
