Ceramic Arts Studio (Madison WI 1940-55) is well-known for its beautiful Betty Harrington designs and its hand-decorated figurines and salt and pepper sets of people and animals.  

This Cocker Spaniel salt and pepper set was introduced in 1953.  The background off-white glaze was probably dipped or sprayed and the contrasting brown was probably sprayed.  The black details of the eyes, nose, and mouth would have been skillfully hand-decorated by the decorating department.  

An example can be seen on page 130 of the 2003 Schiffer reference book "Ceramic Arts Studio - The Legacy of Betty Harrington" by Donald-Brian Johnson, Timothy J. Holthaus, and James E. Petzold.  

The large dog salt shaker (we'll call this one Mom Dog) with 3 holes is about 2-1/2 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches wide, and 3 inches front to back.  The small dog pepper shaker (we'll call this one Baby Dog) with 2 holes is about 1-7/8 inches tall, 1-3/8 inches wide, and 2-1/4 inches front to back.  

Both have the Ceramic Arts Studio Madison Wis and (c) on the bottom.  

Both dogs are in very good vintage condition - no chips, hairlines, or crazing - and ready to use (with the addition of corks), add to a collection, or display all on their own.
