A fantastic a rare surviving Ted Lapidus double breasted suit from the late 1960s. Ted Lapidus was a leading French designer of the era, whose clothes were popular with the likes of John Lennon and Charles Aznavour.
This particular suit has the classic late 1960s Ted Lapidus 4 button double breasted design with large peaked lapels. Typical of French tailoring of the era, the jacket is long with rolled shoulders, a long single rear vent, and a narrow waist that flairs out towards the base. The trousers have side pockets and are slightly tapered towards the hem. Unusually, the trousers have full internal lining from waist to hem.
The navy blue fabric is an English wool mohair mix with that classic mohair sheen beloved by the Mods of the era.
In terms of condition, this suit has clearly had very little use. the only obvious defects are that one of the cuff buttons is a slightly different colour to the others (see photo) and that the inner pocket above the makers label has some signs of repair (see photo)
