This bid is for a Genuine WW2 or possibly WW1 No.1 Dress Tunic worn by a Sergeant of the Royal Regiment of Artillery who has also qualified as a Wireless Operator Instructor. It is complete with both brass collar dogs, all the King’s Crown Royal Artillery brass buttons, with the small epaulette and breast pocket buttons made by ‘Smith & Wright Ltd. Birmingham’ and the larger front buttons unmarked. On the upper right arm it has the gold braided on a red background triple sergeant’s chevrons and above them the gold braided on red background Wireless Operator Instructor patch. What is slightly strange with this rank grouping is when looking closely, directly above the chevrons, there are two holes which would have accommodated the brass cannon arm badge but has been covered/replaced with the gold braided fist in lightning strikes Wireless Operator Instructor patch. I am a great believer in keeping things original and this is exactly how I found this tunic way back nearly 35 years ago, hence is is as found. As can be seen from the pictures, this tunic has a stand-up collar, secured with two hook & eye fasteners, two breast pleated pockets with pointed flaps secured with a single button and with small press-studs at each corner, and the hip pockets follow the same pattern but with no buttons, again with small press-studs at each corner, all giving that added smartness. It has pointed cuffs and no inside pocket. Unfortunately there is no makers label so the date cannot be confirmed other than the buttons are pre 1952 with the King’s crown and it has no vent at the back. Finally it has a black rayon full body inner lining and the sleeves are also lined but in white material. As regards sizing, the actual measurements of this tunic are chest = 37 inches (measured at the back under the armpits); waist = 34 inches; sleeve length from shoulder seam to end of cuff = 24 inches and the length at the back from the base of the collar to the bottom hem is 28 inches. The condition is excellent used with no damage or holes. PLEASE NOTE that I will ship WORLDWIDE. If you have any questions, please ask before bidding.
