Original Japanese Imperial Navy officer’s dirk with a ray-skin-covered handle and matching ray-skin-covered scabbard.
The steel blade has a rounded spine and an unsharpened section near the base, with the cutting edge beginning farther forward. These features suggest that the blade was purpose-made for a naval dirk rather than fashioned from a shortened traditional Japanese sword blade.
The dirk features a decorated habaki. The guard bears two inspection marks: an anchor within a cherry blossom and an “N” inside a diamond.

Condition:
The original heavier grip wire is missing, leaving only two thinner wire strands. The cherry blossom grip pin is deeply seated and could not be removed; therefore, the blade has not been disassembled or inspected beneath the handle.
Parts of the ray-skin covering on the scabbard are worn smooth and have lost their original texture. A lacquer-like finish appears to have been applied over the scabbard, giving it a smooth, glossy surface. The metal fittings show age-related wear, discoloration, and patina.
