The Vintage Turtle King Collectors Plate featuring a 3D porcelain sculptural elderly couple sitting on a wooden bench holding a cat is a classic 1990s collectible. Produced by the
Turtle King Corporation (often associated with their popular
Montefiori Collection and detailed resin/porcelain 3D wall decor), these highly textured plaques are designed to be hung as dimensional wall art rather than used as dinnerware.
Key Characteristics of the Plate
- Dimensional Design: The figures of the elderly couple, the wooden bench, and the cat physically pop out from the surface of the plate in a 3-dimensional relief style.
- Material Composition: While marketed with a delicate porcelain look, Turtle King plates from this era are typically cast from a high-density resin or composite cold-cast porcelain, allowing for highly intricate, crisp details in the couple's clothing, facial expressions, and the cat's fur.
- Finishing: They feature a detailed, hand-painted matte or low-gloss finish to accentuate the "country cozy" or Victorian-inspired aesthetic popular in late-20th-century home accents.
- Functionality: The back generally features built-in holes or a wire loop intended for secure wall hanging, though they can also be displayed on deep plate stands or in curio cabinets
