This is a highly collectible Yard O Led Retro Black mechanical pencil, in hallmarked sterling silver.  The Retro range was short-lived in the early 2000s (available for about 5 years or so), and it was a real move away from the traditional all-metal design.  It packs a real punch in the hand - it is weighty, with big chunks of silver at the lead cone and top of the pencil.  It melds beautifully the generous silverwork with a stunning black resin barrel - carrying the timeless barleycorn engraving, which is eye-catching when turned in the light (see video).

This pencil carries the Birmingham assay office hallmarks as a feature of the clip band, and has the date letter for 2003 (lower case "d").  Condition is excellent - only light signs of handling wear.  The barrel has, under magnification, all the tiny striations of original production (looks a little like carbon fibre lines) - confirming little significant handling.  There is a small mark to the pencil top perhaps from having been dropped (see photo and video) and a small contour to the top (see photo and video).  Additionally, the pencil is full of 12 pieces of its Yard of Lead.  The silver is glossy and bright and has only the slightest handling wear visible under magnification.  A genuinely superb example of the Retro range.

(NB on the leads:  some were very difficult to remove, and required removal of the honeycomb holding the leads to access them.  If you have difficulty tapping them out, the pencil does come apart easily, and you will be able to get to them all that way.)

The lead cone is a beautiful hunk of solid silver, with a small core of brass.  Beautifully counter-balanced by the silver clip and band, the pencil is superbly measured in the hand, and has a gravitas and feel which are rare to find in a pencil - it is usually the preserve of a high quality fountain pen.  It weighs in at over 35g (without leads loaded) - which is a good 50% more than most mechanical pencils.  It is definitely a statement writing instrument.

The top of the pencil carries a beautiful silver / black enamel inlaid medallion, with the Y of Yard o Led.  It also has its unique production number, 5025, stamped to the clip ring (which means Yard O Led hold a record of its production, should you ever need repairs).  

The pencil is in its original box and outer box, both of which are in excellent and unmarked condition.  The original instructions and warranty are also included.
