The Yamaha QY22 is a portable music production tool from the 1990s, combining an AWM tone generator and sequencer in a compact body. It features 128 GM-compatible voices, 8 drum kits, and 600 backing patterns, with support for both real-time and step recording. Battery operation and a headphone output make it easy to create music almost anywhere.
The appeal of the QY22 is not about competing with the latest equipment. Its focused workflow allows you to build music by combining patterns and chords using a limited screen and physical buttons. It offers a simple, engaging way to turn musical ideas into arrangements without opening a computer or launching an app.
The QY22 is a great choice for musicians seeking classic 1990s Yamaha sounds and workflow, vintage hardware enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a compact MIDI sequencer and tone generator with a distinctive hands-on character.
